Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world, resides on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is a sacred site and burial ground for ancient Hawaiians.
There is a current threat of an 18 story telescope observatory being build on a foundation the size of a football field on top of Mauna Kea and on this sacred site. The local Hawaiian community is shocked and activated by this. They have organized and created a peaceful encampment at the base of the mountain blocking the access road since the summer of 2019 and there is no end in sight. The protestors consist of many of the island's most powerful Kapunas (wise elders) carrying Hawaiian wisdom and culture with them. Many elders have ben arrested holding the front lines. Hope went to spend time at Mauna Kea to stand in solidarity together and bear witness to this powerful indigenous community standing up for their rights and culture.
Hope attended an intensive retreat on learning to work with Ancestral Medicine, featuring the work of Daniel For, PhD. This mulitday journey of understanding and healing was a combination of education, techniques, and facilitated experiential journeywork. Including explorations and shamanic drumming exercises to contacting and clear past wounds from your lineage. The last step is always making an offering, co-creating a mandala of gifts from the earth. Powerful work at a time when many have passed over to the other side.
Asheville, NC is known for its annual Handpan gatherings, this year a new one was created~ the Reminiscence Gathering. Hope joined the lineup of performers and gathered a group of women to perform a co-collaboration featuring handpan, cajon, frame drum, and flute for a unique presentation of the feminine spirit; in the rustic yet breathtakingly beautiful setting at Laughing Waters Retreat Center in the Appalachian forest alongside natural waterfalls. .
Honoring Mothers Painting Vigil with Nikki Moon in Asheville, NC. They began a 36 hour painting journey the morning after Mother's Day with the intention of embodying the beauty, power, and diverse nature of women and mothers, in all their forms. They created on a triptych of 3 canvases 4 ft by 7 foot long using primarily acrylic paint. As a meditation in action, there were beautiful altars of flowers, music was playing, and many other creative women came to the vigil to witness the process, & share their thoughts and heartsong to add to the vibe and intentions while Hope and Nikki were creating.
Stoked to perform at the Rekinection- Spring Up Celebration outside Kanas City! Alongside Desert Dwellers, Wookiefoot, David Starfire and more! Hope played her solo set and brought up CedarWing on stage with her, then she also performed with Chase Makai, Robin Lewis, and Peewee Dread. Was an amazing event of youth and elders, back to nature and reconnecting with old friends in the mid-west. Hope also facilitated a workshop: 'connecting with your spirit, through finding your voice' in the Red Tent. It was powerful and transformational for all the many beautiful women who attended..
