Alongside friend and fellow musician, Mike Love, Hope had the opportunity to perform at the Yoga Festival at Kalani on Big Island of Hawaii.
Mike Love, voted reggae artist of the year of Hawaii, with serious skills and vibes which definitly reflect that level of musicianship.
It was an honor to sit in with his set at the beautiful E-Max performance space at Kalani and share beats on cajon to co-create some sweet sounds for our extended island ohana!
The soundscape of mad loops and fresh live rhythm made a stage presence that the crowd couldn't resist but dance to~
good times all night!
Exploring Northern Africa, in the ancient city of Fez in Morocco, I came across amazing ancient architecture, rich foods, & old culture steeped in religious beliefs and sacred geometry all around.
This experience inspired me to shoot a new music video for the down tempo song 'Behind the Dark' whose lyrics speak "behind the dark is always light" which reveals a depth and peace that is unique to my new album.
While walking through the earthen walled inner city, the Medina, I entered a small silver jewelry store, and spoke with the young man who owned the store. He said he loved Medicine for the People! I was amazed to be in such a remote part of Africa, and yet reminded that like attracts like and with the right state of mind~ we find love wherever we go!
An amazing group gathered to learn and experience with Hope about the natural human bio rhythms that we can affect and alter with healing intentions with the drum. We discussed the ancient techniques of using music and drums in both pregnancy and birthing to support mother to connect with her source, her baby, and her heartbeat while calming her mind and moving her hips to open the pelvis effectively for faster, gentler birthing.
Hope led a drum journey allowing participants to visualize a reconnection with their source and their womb for both healing and to plant seeds of intention.
They also explored specific rhythms used in Africa to encourage a child to come to a family.
It was such a delight to share my solo music on main stage at the opening of the Oregon Country Fair 2016 , a magnificent gathering of around 40,000 folks. OCF is known for its creative heartfelt approach and family inclusive fun ~ the backdrop is deep in a glorious evergreen forest; while the atmosphere is rich in performance artists, life size puppets, interactive art, unique outdoor sculptures, as well as nationally known musicians playing non-stop on five stages.
Hope's performance featured her percussion and was supported by David Sunshine on the handpan drum, thus creating sweet layers of both rhythm and melody between the two musicians for a dynamic beginning to this sacred and colorful event!
Blessed to be invited to play percussion and record my beats on Hawane Rios's new album!
She is a powerful young woman of conviction to protect the land, culture, and spirit of Hawaii and her music is filled with gorgeous melodies, heartfelt lyrics, & powerful ancient chants from her ancestors. This album carries the stories of the Hawaiian people and vibrations of the aina into each song! You will hear her featured on the new Medicine for the People album, Hoka.
Hawane is a very active part of the movement on Big Island of Hawaii which is working to keep Mauna Kea sacred by protecting it from development.
3 Day beginners Drum Workshop ~ April 28- May 1
We are coming together for the co-creation of rhythm and positive vibes; this 3 day workshop includes an intro to various types of drums, basic hand techniques on a variety of drums, several traditional drum rhythm patterns as well as we will be creating our own rhythms together~ all in a supportive circle.
This course will be held at the beautiful Hale Lani.
All are welcome!
Hope will be joining a sweet line up of harmony and world music on stage in Hawaii at PoleStar's annual Sacred Music Festival. She will be accompanied by David Sunshine on the melodic hardpans and will be weaving her layers and looped vocals will live acoustic beats on cajon and djembe.
This event will be a beautiful gathering of friends and musicians deep in the jungle of Puna. The vibrations of this land are alive with the frequencies of Pele.
Preparing for Hope's new album release there are some beautiful video projects in the works, getting ready to express & spread the heartfelt frequency of her new songs in powerful visuals in nature, and in collaborations with some other powerful ladies of melody... many of her new songs resound with messages honoring the earth and respecting the feminine; thus the imagery resonates with similar intention.
Hope co-created with a circle of seven rotating sisters, an amazing new Music and Arts Festival this year~ MANA Fest, honoring the feminine. This festival was unique in that it featured women's voices and sisters opportunities to share their knowledge in a huge offering of 20 workshops, a Red Tent of rituals and education, mana marketplace, tea lounge, and healing arts zone, spa and 10 musical performances including Sara Tone, Diane Patterson, Amber Lily, Water Dropz, and Hope, who headlined the event which SOLD OUT!! As well as taught a workshop on the spirit of natural Birth , and also showed her paintings.
MANA Fest was in a beautiful permaculture retreat center in the jungle of Big Island Hawaii. This community event created jobs for 60 women & its beauty and power will be sure to be followed up with MANA Fest 2017` look for it!!
The Red Tent is an ancient tradition, a place where only women would go, usually while on their moon. In this tent the women could tell their stories, share their wisdom, sing and heal together, listen and be heard in the gentle feminine environment. Now women are revitalizing, recreating, and reclaiming these spaces as places to once again share knowledge and ritual as well as to educate our sisters on the moon mysteries, sexuality, fertility, birth, and women's health.
Hope had the pleasure of both teaching and facilitating a conversation on the spirit of natural birth at Mana Fest 2016. This was a unique and memorable opportunity to invite each woman present to share he knowing, fears, and lessons with the group in a way that elevated the group awareness and compassion for each other.

Excited to share my new body of work, this is a heartfelt collection of large original acrylic paintings on canvas, ranging in size from approximately 20'' x 30'' up to 22'' x 40'' that express a variety of empowered feminine images. Bold colors, penetrating presence, and strong messages underlie these paintings. They reflect a spiritual nature though varying in cultural references, texture, and painterly techniques.
The show will be held in the popular Conscious Culture Cafe of Big Island of Hawaii, and will hang for four months.
Prints will be available upon request.

It's TRUE! Medicine for the People finally made it to play the amazingly sweet, world class Red Rocks Amphitheater this summer!!! It was an incredible SOLD OUT show with String Cheese for 10,000 folks, with a powerful lineup with Max RIbner back on horn, Pato on bass, Justin on Drum kit, Chase on guitar, Nahko lead vocals and of course representing the feminine~ yours truly on hand drums/percussion! As the sun blazed in this sacred & ancient red rocks gathering place, our Medicine regined to the people as never before~ on Fire! Photo of Hope center stage during her powerful Djembe solo, as Nahko leaps and flies overhead!
Excited to release this new music video~ shot by Surviving Child Media, starring Jasmine Fuego~ in the forests and hills of San Francisco! This is a powerful collaboration of a team of artists and dancers front the bay area, that came out beautifully, with the raw energy intended for this song. Temple is a song based on traditional African lyrics; a song honoring, invoking and bringing together the feminine, the masculine, and the great spirit. This fusion combines those lyrics with a drum pattern of India & a sweet heavy dance groove! Enjoy~
Beginning a new series of paintings, this is an exciting time! Hope has created a little bit a of time to get out her easel and paints again after touring hard and now has some new ideas and techniques that are coming out fast and fabulous~ stay tuned!
Most of her work is acrylic paint on canvas~ though there are aspects of multi media in every piece to get the layers of sophisticated shading and detail.
Medicine for the People was invited to perform on the international Zen Cruise over the ocean to Haiti and Jamaica for a journey of yoga and music! It was especially mind blowing to hit the soil in Jamica and spend the afternoon at the home of an Ital crew ~ they had a medicinal plant garden and a thatched roof temple to the founder of rastafarianism, Hallie Selassie. We ate the ital food they prepared, and were invited to listen to the elders play at their Niabynge drum circle by the fire. We were grateful to be welcomed in, and witness their ceremony.
New Year's Eve brought Medicine for the People to the world renowned Woodford Folk Festival~ where we were epically received and given the opportunity to bring thousands of Oz friends & fans into the new year 2015 together!
Medicine was playing on the main stage up until Midnight, when we paused for everyone in the crowd to light their candles, and held 3 minutes of silence to pray for world peace~ this was spectacular to behold, before jumping back into the most energized version of 'I believe in the good things coming'!
Powerful new collaboration, 'I Return' just out!! A song featuring my spoken word lyrics~ supported by sweet beatz by DJ Inner Forest. This video, shot by Pavel Safonov features dancer Isabel Sanchez and bass player of the Ace of Cups, the all female band who opened for Jimmy Hendrix~ Denise Kaufman. The concept includes timelessness and the sense that we all return and evolve as beings.
In town on her Permaculture Action tour with the Polish Ambassador, Ayla Nereo and I made it into the studio together and she & friends collaborated on vocals on my new track, Journey Bound! It was an exciting fusion of drums, vocal percussion and and enchanting melodies~ look for it on my next Album!
Stoked to share the latest in my world-
with your world!
